Service Description

This course challenges traditional, colonial models of policing and public safety and replaces them with frameworks rooted in community care, mutual protection, and Black liberation. We dive deep into what truly keeps people safe, exploring real alternatives to police presence, surveillance, and criminalization. In the course, we examine the history of policing, the impact of systemic violence on marginalized communities, and the role of community-based safety systems from an abolition-based framework. Through discussion, strategy labs, and scenario planning, you’ll leave equipped with actionable tools to design and implement grassroots safety plans in your schools, neighborhoods, and networks. Policing isn’t the only way to respond to harm. This course shows you another way.
