Joy Is Our Revolution: Building Liberation Through Everyday Moments

ree

Picture this: It's 2035, and community defense gardens bloom in every neighborhood. Children learn conflict resolution alongside their ABCs. Elders teach survival skills while sharing stories under solar-powered pavilions. Mental health support is as accessible as corner stores. This isn't fantasy—it's the liberation future we're building, one joyful moment at a time.

Last weekend, I watched my training group erupt in laughter after successfully completing a tactical drill. In that moment—sweat on our faces, adrenaline pumping, pure joy radiating—I saw revolution in action. Not the grim, joyless struggle the system wants us to believe liberation requires, but the vibrant, life-affirming work of people choosing to protect what they love.

Why Joy Is Resistance

Oppressive systems thrive on our despair. They want us exhausted, hopeless, and isolated. When we choose joy—when we laugh with our training partners, celebrate small victories, find beauty in our preparation—we're refusing to let them win. Joy reminds us what we're fighting for: not just survival, but the right to thrive.

Every time you find pleasure in learning a new skill, every moment you feel proud of your progress, every laugh shared with your community—that's resistance. You're proving that liberation work doesn't have to drain your soul. It can fill it.

Liberation Looks Like...

Communities where safety training happens alongside block parties. Where children grow up knowing they're protected and powerful. Where healing and preparation go hand in hand. Where joy isn't a luxury—it's a birthright we defend together.

This future isn't built through suffering—it's built through the radical act of choosing happiness while doing the work. When we train with joy, we're not just preparing for what might come. We're creating the world we want to live in, right now.

What brings you joy in your preparation journey? Maybe it's the confidence that comes with mastering a new skill, the community you've found, or simply knowing you're taking control of your safety. Whatever it is, hold onto it. Celebrate it. Share it.

Because in a world that profits from our pain, your joy is revolutionary. And revolution? It should feel good.

Ready to find joy in your journey toward empowerment? Join me for an upcoming workshop where we'll build skills, community, and plenty of reasons to smile. Because the future we're creating together is worth celebrating.
